Ellis Brasby Sr., 90, of South Welles Street, Wilkes-Barre passed away Wednesday morning, July 23, at the Department of Veterans' Affairs Medical Center Hospice, Plains Township.

He was born March 24, 1924 in Perry, Fla., the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Della Lee Whittle Brasby.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Prior to retiring, Ellis was employed by the coal mining industry and later by Roth American Industries.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, sons, Ralph Brasby and Karl Johnson Jr.; brother, Ager Lee Brasby; sisters, Della Lee Brown, Rosell Haywood, Annie Tillman, Juanita White and Jenethel Mabley.
Surviving are sons, Larry Johnson and his wife, Nana, of Ghana, Africa; Benny L. Brasby of Pittsburgh; Carlton Brasby of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ellis C. Brasby, Villa Don Brasby, Arness Brasby, Victor K. Brasby, all of Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Jerald Swiderski of Wilkes-Barre; brother, Lovette Brasby of Perry, Fla.; sisters, Viven James, Atlanta, Ga.; Melba Patterson of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; loyal nephew, Lawrence Brown of Philadelphia; numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 in the Chapel at Maple Hill Cemetery, 68 E. St. Mary's Road, Hanover Township, with the Rev. Gloria Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service.
