Karen A. Gogick, 60, of Red Maple Avenue, Mountain Top, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the Mountain Top Senior Care Center.

Born in Nanticoke on June 16, 1954, she was the daughter of Bernadine Danielowicz Waiter and the late Peter Waiter.

She was formerly employed as a waitress by the Blue Bird Restaurant in Nanticoke until becoming a full-time mother to her daughter. More recently, she performed the weekly cleaning of St. Mary's, Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Dorrance.

Karen volunteered at St. Jude's School cafeteria and was a class mother for many years. She was a volunteer who knew how to get things done.

As a member of the former Bishop Hoban High School Parents Club, she chaired the annual spaghetti dinner and fish fry. She stepped up to coach the Bishop Hoban field hockey team for one year when no one else would, and she faithfully baked chocolate chip cookies for the softball team.

She was actively involved with the St. Theresa's Guild of St. Mary's, organizing the annual turkey bingo, the December lottery and the First Communion breakfast up until her sickness. She was also the "chief" pierogi boiler for the parish picnic.

As an avid Steelers fan, she would attend their training camp in Latrobe. For many years, Karen, along with her husband and daughter, participated in the Steelers 5K Race, Fitness Walk and Kids Kick Off Run in Pittsburgh that benefited the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund.

A Pittsburgh Pirates fan, she attended many Pirates home games. She was especially happy each year when they defeated the Phillies around the Fourth of July holiday.

Karen would help anyone at any time. From shoveling neighbors' driveways to helping dig out a tree stump, she would be there to help.

Besides all of her activities, she still had time to be a loving wife and mother with a very practical outlook on life. Her wit and humor were contagious. She will be sadly missed by anyone who knew her, but especially by her daughter and husband of 38 years.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Alexander (Sandy); daughter, Kristy, Pittsburgh; a nephew, a niece and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday from Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's, Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Dorrance.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Sheatown.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Karen to Candy's Place, the Center for Cancer Wellness, 190 Welles St., Suite 120, Forty Fort, PA 18704.
