Lee L. Burkel, 83, of Hughestown passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Pittston on June 14, 1931, son of the late Theodore and Margaret Jenkins Burkel, he was a 1950 graduate of Pittston High School.
He served in the U.S. Naval Air Force for four years.
Lee was co-owner of Burkel's Brothers Auto Service for 40 years. He retired from Letica Corp.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6909, Dupont, and the Dupont Polish Club.
He was preceded in death by wife, Dominica (Micky) Burkel, in October 2013; brothers, William, Sheldon and Theodore Burkel; and sisters, Beverly Hoffman and Margaret.
He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Burkel, West Pittston; sisters, Gail Joest, East Stroudsburg; and Cathy Brown, Harveys Lake; sister-in-law, Sybil Burkel, West Pittston; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Dupont AMVETS will conduct military services Friday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Irem Shrine Hospital, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140-4131.
