Anthony J. Skiptunas, 82, of Estero, FL and native of Nanticoke passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Ft. Myers.

Born on April 6, 1932 in Nanticoke he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna Komoroski Skiptunas. After graduating from Nanticoke High School in 1950, he served his country during Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corps. 1st Division in south and western Korea. Among other awards, he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1953 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service he attended and graduated from St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia earning a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1959.

Mr. Skiptunas was employed as a chemist in the Pharmaceuticals Department of Dow Chemical Company for 40 years and later was an inspector for the Environmental Protection Agency, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Nanticoke, St. Leo's Church, Bonita Springs and All Saints Byzantine Church, Ft. Myers. He was also a life member of American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, the former Susan Hvozda, also a native of Nanticoke, son, Dr. Anthony J. Skiptunas III and his wife, Kelly, Wrightsville, and a daughter, Suzanne Wiesen of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Rachel and Brett Wiesen.

A Funeral Mass with Divine Liturgy will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 240 Center Street, Hanover section of Nanticoke with the Rev. Volodymyr Popyk officiating.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke with full military honors.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Arrangements are by Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke.
