Betty Pokrinchak found peace after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017.

Born in Plymouth, she was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1943. She was the daughter of John and Julia Mergo Pokrinchak.

After graduation, Betty worked at Golden Quality Ice Cream in Plymouth. She began working for Nationwide Insurance, Harrisburg, shortly thereafter and continued there for more than 30 years. She retired early and moved home to assist her sister, Justine, with her ailing mother.

Betty was preceded in death by all four of her siblings and their spouses, Theodore Parks and wife, Ruth, Levittown; Barbara and husband, Mel Bostwick, Mechanicsburg; Justine and husband, Paul, at home; and Philip and wife, Jacqueline Pokrinchak, Owego, N.Y.

Betty is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, along with their children and grandchildren.

Betty loved taking the bus to town, having breakfast at Boscov's and keeping up with her friends from high school and Harrisburg. Having no children of her own, her nieces and nephews were the recipients of much attention and love.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the exceptional care Betty received in the last months of her life. Special thanks to Mary, Tom, Shannon, Ann and Barbara, who are outstanding in the care they provided. The inpatient unit who provided respite was invaluable to Betty's caregivers. The volunteers for hospice also played an important role. We would like to thank Leslie for her time. Without their support, we really don't know how we would have kept Betty at home, which was her wish as well as her family's.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McDermott Funeral Home, McKees Rocks.

A memorial for Betty and her sister, Justine, who passed away in March, will be held at the family's convenience.
