Sophia G. Homitz, 98, formerly of Nanticoke and then Wilkes-Barre after being displaced by a fire at her home, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018.

Born in Nanticoke on Nov. 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Ludwika Kalinowski Homitz.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Alexander, Stanley, Helen and Chester.

Sophia was very popular with the other guests at the nursing home and was usually heard singing Polish folk songs or Christmas carols. In addition to her music, Sophia was very interested in the happenings at King's College especially after her brother, Stanley, graduated from King's.

Surviving are her cousins, Margie Kalinowski and Josephine Dalkiewicz.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday from Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Faustina Parish Church.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Newport Twp. Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Monday.
