Joseph R. Notari, 92, of Ridge Street, Ashley, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Celtic Health Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

He was born in Duryea on Sept. 23, 1925, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Jackett Notari. He attended the Old Forge area schools.

He was self-employed as a snack food distributor together with his wife, Ann. He was the originator of Joe's Cheese and Crackers, which was distributed in the local bars.

Joseph was a member of St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church.

He was an avid and experienced bowler in various leagues in the area and had several 300 games. His passion in life was attending the horse races at the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 59 years, the former Ann Fetchko Notari, on April 26, 2009, and sister, Marguerite Talarico.

Surviving are his daughters, Nancy Kost and her husband, Robbie, Hanover Twp.; and Judy Krifka and her husband, Nick, West Wyoming; two grandchildren, Robert and Jill Kost; brother, Thomas Notari, Landing, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Janet Weis Children's Hospital, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Celtic Health Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, for their excellent care and compassion given to Joseph in his time of need.
