Bernard T. Gavlick Sr., 84, of Ashley, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at St. Luke's Villa with his loving family by his side.

Born in Ashley on March 12, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward T. and Mary Magda Gavlick. He attended Ashley schools.

He was employed for 45 years by Herman Funke & Sons as a supervisor, until his retirement in 1999. He also worked as a carpenter for Ashley Homes. After his retirement, he worked for Mountain Top Interiors as an installer.

Bernie was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved watching Penn State and feeding the birds in his back yard.

He was always happy spending time with family and friends. He was a man of few words, lived a simple life but was very happy and content. Others needs always came before his own and he always saw the good in everyone. He was well loved; thanks Pop.

Preceding him in death, besides his parents, was his loving wife, Shirley Mae Williams Gavlick; sisters, Anna Thompson and Helen Ungvarsky; and brothers, Joseph and Andrew.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Bernard Jr. and Mary Kay and their children, Bernard III, Kathryn and Taylor, Ashley; Richard and Maureen and their children, Richard Jr. and Michael, Northmoreland Twp.; William, Ashley, and his children, Joelle, Billy Jr. and Jessica; number four son, Bobby Ruda and wife, Cathy, and children, Kayla and Bobby Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Adalynn Mae; sister, Dolores Ruda, Ashley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until noon Monday.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke's Villa for all the care they gave our father.
