Ethel A. Lastosky, 91, of Swoyersville passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Aug. 10, 2010, at her residence. She would have celebrated her 92nd birthday today.

Her loving husband was the late Walter E. Lastosky, who passed away Oct. 1, 1981. Together, Walter and Ethel shared 39 wonderful years of marriage.

Born Aug. 12, 1918, in Edwardsville, Ethel was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Hydock Barno.

Ethel was raised in Edwardsville and spent the majority of her married life and later years in Swoyersville.

Prior to her retirement, Ethel was employed by the former Consolidated Cigar, West Pittston.

A faithful Catholic, Ethel was a member of Holy Name/St. Mary's Parish Community, Swoyersville.

Ethel was an avid gardener who took great pride in tending to her home and garden.

A woman of many enjoyments, Ethel greatly enjoyed creating various needlepoints and crocheting. Ethel loved Saturday nights because those were the nights that she would watch the Pennsylvania Polka and Ballroom Dancing on WVIA.

Family was truly the focal point in Ethel's life and she cherished every chance she had to be with her loved ones. She will forever be remembered by her family as a loving, generous and soft-spoken mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her beautiful spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Michael and Elizabeth Barno, and her beloved husband, Walter, Ethel was also preceded in death by her son, Richard Lastosky; her grandson, Thomas Kempinski; her son-in-law, Richard A. Jones; her brother, Michael Barno; and her sisters, Irene Barno and Louise Olinatz.

Ethel is survived by her loving daughter, Elaine Jones, Hanover Township; her granddaughter, Kimberly Materna and her husband, Edward, Ashley; her great-grandchildren, Julianna Smith, Evan Materna and Aiden Materna; numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, which will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Holy Name/St. Mary's Church, 283 Shoemaker St., Swoyersville, with the Rev. William J. Karle, her pastor, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
