Dorothy M. De Luca Gelso, 78, of West Pittston passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in Celtic Heathcare, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Pittston on Dec. 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Ida Stefanelli De Luca.
Dorothy was a graduate of Pittston Township High School in 1951 and College Misericordia in 1955.
Dorothy worked as a substitute teacher for many years at Gate of Heaven, Dallas, and Wyoming Area schools. She also worked for Dr. Vincent Carboni.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Gelso, in 2007; son, Patrick; and brothers, James and Eugene.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, son, Charles and his wife, Kathleen, Dallas; daughter, Rosalie Shemmer and her husband, Hank, Piermont, N.Y.; and daughter, Dorothy Loud and her husband, Steven, Evansville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Nikki, Chad and Patrick Gelso; and her sister, Elizabeth De Luca.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church Saturday morning.
Interment will be in Denison Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston.
