Harvey L. (Homer) Schooley Sr. of Nanticoke died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Wilkes-Barre Inpatient Unit, Celtic Healthcare, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Harvey and Gertrude Hitch Schooley.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed as a painter and worked for the Retreat State Hospital and later for Clarks Summit State Hospital.

Harvey was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Schooley, Gertrude Yekel and Shirley Rudoski.

Harvey is survived by his loving wife, the former Joan Leach; children, Mary Franklin, Larksville; Pat Conklin, Greencastle; Debbie Fernandes and her husband, Tom, Nanticoke; Harvey Schooley Jr. and his wife, Alisia, Warrior Run; and Leona Williams and her husband, Dave, Hanover Township; eight grandchildren, Patti Ann, Roberta, Tommy, Tyler, David, Stephanie, Justin and Chrissy; and seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Kelsey, Hunter, Arianna, Alexis, Madison and Emily.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with Pastor Carol Coleman officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday.
