Thomas John Sak, 64, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born in the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township on Jan. 26, 1949, he was the son of Thomas and Josephine Atcavage Sak.

Thomas attended local schools in Wilkes-Barre Township and was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, Class of 1967. After graduation, Thomas joined the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War as a mechanic. During this time, he attained the rank of sergeant.

After being honorably discharged, he returned home to marry his love, the former Mary C. Bracaloni, on May 31, 1971. Together they celebrated 41 years of marriage. Throughout these years, Thomas was employed by Georgia Pacific, as a warehouse foreman, until the plant's closure. He was then employed by Quaker Oats and Pepsi Bottling Co. until his retirement.

Thomas loved to garden and spend time outside in his yard. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 283, Kingston, and Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township.

Thomas was preceded in death by his loving parents, Thomas, in 1985, and Josephine, in 2013.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Mary, at home; son, Thomas and his wife, Maria, Plains Township; daughter, Mary Hockenberry and her husband, Peter, Plains Township; grandsons, Charles Callahan, Plains Township; Anthony and Dominick Sak, Plains Township; sisters, Eileen Olszyk and her husband, Paul, Wilkes-Barre Township; and Dolores McCrea, Plains Township; and several nephews.

Thomas's funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the parish cemetery, Plains Township. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
