Jean (Regina) Kowalski Waznik, 82, of Wilkes-Barre died Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 2013, at home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre in 1930, she was the daughter of Stanley and Helen Chaplinski Kowalski. She was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1948, and Wilkes Business College.
Jean moved to New York City following her marriage to Walter Waznik, her loving husband of 52 years. While in New York City, she was employed as a secretary prior to raising her children. Jean and her family returned to Wilkes-Barre, where she was later employed by Schott Optical, and the Internal Revenue Service.
She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She will be missed by all.
Preceding Jean in death were her husband, Walter, in 2004; brothers, Edward and Joseph; an infant brother, Chester Zawadski; sisters, Lillian Smigielski and Stella Susek.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Waznik; and Ellen and her husband, Frank Coughlin Jr.; son, Paul Waznik and his wife, Tamera; grandchildren, Kevin, Francis, William and Alice Coughlin; Eileen and Gregory Waznik; brother, Theodore Kowalski and his wife, Maureen; brother-in-law, Edward Waznik and his wife, Joan; several cousins; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township, celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Greskiewicz.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Township.
Interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be given to Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township, PA 18705.
