Guided on her final earthly journey by Hospice of the Sacred Heart and her family, Maria Griffith died peacefully at home Thursday, March 7, 2013.

Born Oct. 20, 1963, Maria was a 1981 graduate of Montrose Area High School. She studied dental assisting at B.O.C.E.S., and upon completion worked locally assisting for Dr. Thomas Pascoe and the late Dr. Ron Reed.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Andrea Martinos, Johnson City, N.Y.; and Alexis Wagner and husband, R.J., Endicott, N.Y.; grandson, Brett Wagner; her parents, Rich and Joan Griffith; sisters, Ellen DiPhillips and husband, Ken, Montrose; and Jennifer Schiavone and husband, Steve, North Salem, N.Y.; her maternal grandmother, Jule Novakoski, and her godmother, Marilyn Novak, Kingston; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Edward Novakoski, Wilkes-Barre; and her paternal grandparents, Richard and Dorothy Griffith, Shavertown.

She was vibrant, full of life and emotion, quixotic, complicated and challenging, but most of all Maria was kind and generous to all she met. Her quick wit and lively sense of humor made you feel at ease in her company. At family gatherings, Maria loved the game of Scrabble and she made a worthy opponent.

She was a loving mother and that love extended to her entire family, including the adopted furry and finned variety, her dog, Zeus (a.k.a. Scooby Doo), her feline friend, Katrina, and her fish, Valentine.

Friends may call at 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, 232 S. Main St., Montrose, to celebrate Maria's life and mourn her early passing. Immediately following the calling hours, a service of remembrance will be held at the funeral home.

Donations may be made in Maria's memory to the True Friends Animal Welfare Center, 16332 state Route 706, Montrose, PA 18801.
