Eve Sowyrda, 88, of Wilkes-Barre died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Wasil and Tillie Danilack Gozick.

Eve was educated in Wilkes-Barre area schools and was formerly employed by the cigar and toy industries.

She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church and was an active member, making pierogies and working at the bingo at the bazaars.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a gentle person who treated everyone with kindness. She loved her church, her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, in 2011. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters, a niece and nephews through the years.

Surviving are her daughter, Jean A Dougherty, Plains Township; grandchildren, Daniel and Marissa; sister, Anna Wilk, Plains Township; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Requiem service at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A Parastas service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, with the Very Rev. David Shewczyk officiating.
