Frances A. Shalata, 80, formerly of Nanticoke and Main Street, Sugar Notch, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at the Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke.

She was born in Wanamie on Jan. 2, 1933, the daughter of the late Michael and Magdalene Figora Bolek. She was a former member of Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Bernard Sr., on June 24, 1995; daughter, Linda Luft, on Jan. 6, 2011; and son, Stephen Shalata, on Aug. 15, 2013; brothers, John Kurowski and Michael Bolek Jr.; sisters, Anna Giefski, Stella Johnson, Josephine Wnuk, Agnes Kurowski, Helen Small and Blanche Kalinowski.
Surviving are a son, Bernard Jr. and his wife, Cindy, Sugar Notch; grandson, James Luft and his wife, Nichole; great-granddaughter, Sierra, West Pittston; sisters, Sofia Bond, Benton; Lottie Katra, Nanticoke; Antoinette Chesney, Nanticoke; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Main Street, Sugar Notch. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. John Bobeck, M.D., and all the staff of Birchwood Nursing and Rehabiltation Center, Nanticoke, for their kind care and concern given to Frances in her time of need.
