Charles Beccaris Obituary

Charles "Jim" Beccaris, 83, of Plains Township passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in the arms of his loving wife, Huguette.

Born June 5, 1932, Jim was the son of the late John and Mary (Polinski) Beccaris.

After graduating from Plains Memorial High School, he attended Wilkes-Barre Business College until he was drafted into the Army. He was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his discharge from the service, he joined his father in the family business. He was an integral part of the development of the successful business, Jay-Dee Store, later known as The Sneaker King, in 1983. Jim was the co-owner and president of Sneaker King. Jim contributed to the community through his membership in the Plains Businessmen's Association, as well as many charitable activities. Jim's circle of friends were many through all of his life and he was much respected.

An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club. He organized for several years junkets to Las Vegas. He formerly owned horses and enjoyed the race track. He loved to travel and particularly enjoyed visiting Quebec, Canada, spending time with his wife's family. He looked forward to wintering in Florida. His favorite pastime was sports, reading business and sports papers, music, dancing, visiting friends and watching sunsets with his wife.

In addition to Jim's mother and father, he was preceded in death by his cousin, Dolores Jones.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Huguette Roy-Beccaris; daughters, Jacqueline Wanko and her husband, Mark, and Janelle Mirigliani and her husband, Larry, all of Kingston; grandchildren, Ryan Wanko and his wife, Sandra, Alaina Wanko and her fiancé, Patrick Horbas, Christopher Mirigliani and Brandon Mirigliani; great-grandson, Jason–Ryan Wanko; brother, Jack Beccaris and his wife, Jeanie, Laflin; Huguette's children, Jean-Sebastien, Marie Andree, Pascal and their wives, and four granddaughters.

The family would like to thank the staff at Timber Ridge for their excellent care during his stay. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Yanoshak, and the caring staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley PCU for their compassion and comfort extended to Jim's family during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township, with the Rev. John C. Lambert, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Little Eric's Foundation, P.O. Box 1004, Pittston, PA 18640.

Dear Janelle and Family. Your dad was a great man. I will always remember the great times we had at Plains and the time your family took me to the beach for my very first time. It was a blast.

Jim was the best boss I have ever had the pleasure of working with. His knowledge of the business made it interesting, his sense of humor made it fun. My condolences to his family.

Sorry to hear of Jim's passing...it's a sad day in Plains. My parents took me to Jay-Dee's for shoes around 1950. I called Jimmy the "Sneaker King" from the late 1950's. No matter where you were Jim would always say, "Hello"...
