Michael Macario Obituary

Michael W. Macario, 60, of Duryea, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 1, 1955 and grew up in the Oregon Section of Pittston. He graduated from Pittston Area High School in 1972 and attended Misericordia University. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

One of Michael's passions was mentoring the youth of our area through coaching multiple sports teams and his reward was the acknowledgement that so many of the kids he coached remembered him years later. He was a life fan of the Texas Longhorns, N.Y. Giants, N.Y. Yankees and a dedicated Beatles fan. He was also a history buff.

Michael was the son of Sheila Macario Agolino and the late Angelo Macario.

He is survived by his fiancé Cassaundra Joseph; sons, Anthony Macario (Melissa) of Duryea; and Robert Macario (Katelyn) of Pittston; grandson Angelo Anthony Macario; brother Robert Macario (Diane); sisters Gloria Macario Kizis (Daniel) and Angela Macario Lopiano (Stephen); numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kizis-Lokuta Funeral Home, 134 Church St., Pittston. A funeral service by the Rev. Peter Sellani will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Italian Christian Church, at the corner of Oak and LaGrange Streets, Pittston. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the church the morning of the funeral.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Duryea Little League Association, 700 Foote Ave., Duryea, PA 18642 or the Luzerne County ASPCA, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

My condolences to the Macario family. Over the years Michael and I had many discussions about our younger days at PAHS. I especially enjoyed Coach Macario's subtle "critiques" of my bad calls in the games I umpired. Michael will be sadly missed.

Rob, I just want to say how sorry I am to hear of your dad passing. Just knowing the kind, thoughtful, caring person you are says so much about the way your dad was. Those traits you got from him which shows what a special man (dad) he was and will be remembered for those things.
Stay in touch with your friends as they are there even when you least expect it. My prayers go with you and the rest of your family.

My condolences to Michael's family. Over the years we shared many stories of our PAHS days. What I enjoyed the most about Mike were his subtle and sarcastic "critiques" of all my bad calls over the years. Every time I am at the Duryea baseball field he will be remembered. He will be sadly missed.

Mike had a big heart. He would periodically call my mom and check up on her. She enjoyed hearing from him and did talk to him prior to his recent hospitalization. Too young to leave us. Rest in peace Mike.

So sorry to hear about Mike's passing. Always remember him as a guy who always wanted to mentor kids. Although he was just three years older than me, his brother, Bob, Tubby Lopresto, Johnny Licata and the rest of us kids who spent our lives in the Oregon section of Pittston, he served as a neighborhood football coach before junior football came to our area. If i recall, he was teaching us how to run the wishbone offense when we were around 10 because of his love for the Texas Longhorns. May he rest in peace.

Mike was my football coach 28 years ago when I was 12 years old. He was the most demanding, direct and intense coach I ever had. He was also the best coach I ever had the pleasure to play for. My memories are so clear of Mike yelling at me constantly to work harder and play better. Mike was also the 1st person to recognize positive results. A true indicator of a successful life is if you positively impacted others. Mike's impact on me and other young men was profound. Mike, R.I.P.- I am fortunate and forever appreciative I was able to call you coach.

Mike was the best Little League coach of all time! Every kid was important to him. He sincerely wanted them to succeed in baseball and in life. My best memory of Coach Macario is the day my 10yr old son, Jacob, showed up for a game proudly sporting his new mohawk haircut. Mike LOVED it and spoke of it for years to come!
R.I.P. Coach.
