Elizabeth Howell Obituary

Elizabeth A. Howell, 101, formerly of the Sheatown section of Newport Twp., passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Oct. 6, 2017, at Wyoming Manor, Wyoming, where she had been a resident for the past three years.

Born May 24, 1916, in Glen Lyon, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Butchko Barron. She attended Newport Twp. schools.

Elizabeth was married to Harry Howell Jr. in 1938 and soon after relocated to Baltimore, Md. Her husband's work as a construction supervisor soon required the family to leave Baltimore and travel the United States and abroad. After retiring in the early 1970s they resettled in Sheatown.

A homemaker all of her life, she enjoyed reading, sewing and most of all cooking. She loved collecting recipes. Especially enjoyable were the family and holiday meals she prepared and her delicious home-baked pies and desserts.

Volunteering for both St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Alden and Holy Child Church in Sheatown, where she was a member many years, was an important part of her life. She was always available for the Welsh cookie sale at St. Andrew's and to volunteer at various fund raisers at Holy Child. She more recently became a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Glen Lyon.

Her husband, Harry, passed on Sept. 6, 1994, after 56 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Emma Isdepski and Helen Laskowski; and brothers, John, Joseph and Paul Barron.

She will be missed by her only child, Harry Howell III and wife, Janice, Glen Lyon; three granddaughters, Heather Fritz, Dallas; Amy Berneski and husband, Matthew, Swoyersville; and Lindsay Wilson and husband, Michael, Avon, Mass.; a great-granddaughter, Ava Wilson; her brother, Andrew Barron and wife, Eleanor, New Cumberland, Pa.; as well as nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Adalbert's Church, Glen Lyon.

Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Glen Lyon.

The family will have a private viewing. There will be no public calling hours.

Her family extends their sincere thanks the staff of Wyoming Manor as well as Celtic Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Mrs. Howell.

If desired, contributions in Mrs. Howell's memory may be made to Mill Memorial Library, 495 E. Main St., Nanticoke, PA 18634.
