Reed, Julia - Olathe  
Julia A. Reed Julia A. Reed, 85, of Olathe, Kansas died Wednesday, December 18, 2014, at her home. She was born March 19, 1929, in Fairmont, Missouri. She grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri and later moved to Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Wyandotte High School. She married Roland Reed in 1944 while Roland was in the Air Force being trained as a pilot. During Roland s military service, they lived in Florida, Alabama, and Texas. After WWII, they settled in Topeka, Kansas where Julia was a homemaker and mother. In addition, she worked at J. C. Penney s and Topeka Public Schools. Julia and Roland moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1994 several years after Roland retired from the Santa Fe Railroad. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Reed, of 69 years. She is survived by a son, Michael J. Reed and his wife, Kristi, of Topeka; two daughters, Ann M. Reed of Topeka, and Kathleen R. Major and her husband, Mike, of Olathe; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and collecting dolls. Julia was a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe. Visitation will be at Penwell-Gabel Olathe Chapel on Sunday, December 21, at 2pm where the family will receive friends until the Memorial Service which begins at 3pm. There will be no graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. His family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Ruckert, Dennis  
Dennis W. Ruckert Dennis W. Ruckert, 71, Topeka, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014. He was born in Herington to Harold and Patricia Ruckert on December 7, 1943. Dennis graduated from Chase High School and received a B.S. in electrical engineering from Kansas State University. He worked for Southwestern Bell his entire career and retired as an Area Manager in Network Engineering. Dennis was a member of the Euclid Lodge in Lyndon, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine, K-State Alumni Association, and AT&T Pioneers. Dennis married Margaret Margie Mills on December 2, 1967. Margie preceded him in death on December 22, 1990. He married Merlene Burgess on January 20, 2001. She survives. Dennis is also survived by his daughter, Karen Ruckert, Washington, D.C.; son, Michael Ruckert, Manhattan; stepsons, Chad (Randi) Peed, Baldwin, and Jason Peed, Prague, the Czech Republic; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Hill, Berryton; stepgrandchildren, Tyler, Austin, and Adrian; and sister, Margaret Peggy (Jonathan) Olsen, Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yvonna Vonnie Schilling. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Mount Hope Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, the Shriners Hospital for Children, and the Margaret Mills Ruckert Memorial Scholarship at Kansas State University.
