Charles Armstrong

Charles Armstrong Charles Armstrong, Topeka, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013. Charles served in World War II in the Navy. He was a member of the 123rd US Naval Construction Battalion, Company B Platoon 1, serving in the South Pacific and China. Charles was a general contractor and owned Armstrong Construction. He remodeled numerous stores in Topeka, including the first Payless Shoe Store on Kansas Avenue. Charles retired when he was 50 and he and his wife, Donna, enjoyed many years vacationing in south Texas during the winters and Estes Park in the summers. His parents, Arthur and Alma Armstrong, predeceased Charles. His mother emigrated from Sweden and his father s parents were also Swedish immigrants. Five brothers and a sister predeceased Charles: Amos Armstrong, Roy Armstrong, Harry Armstrong, Allen Armstrong, Norman Armstrong and sister, Montana Stroude. Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna; and daughter, Tamara Vincent; two granddaughters, Amy (Jeff) Newell and Angela (Dean) Nordhus; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Newell and Alex Newell. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Helping Hands Humane Society or , sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to Charles Armstrong
