James W. Fee

HUTCHINSON ~ James W. Fee, 71, Hutchinson, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born June 13, 1932, at Hutchinson, the son of Frank T. and Gertrude Cave Fee. He was a 1950 graduate of Hutchinson High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College in 1951 and was a 1954 graduate of The University of Kansas. He was a lifetime Hutchinson and chairman of the Fee Insurance Group. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Hutchinson, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and University of Kansas Alumni Association. He served on the board of directors of First National Bank of Hutchinson and in the Navy League of the United States. He belonged to the Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 AF & AM and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Midian Shrine of Wichita and American Legion Lysle Richel Post No. 68. He was a Scout Master and a longtime volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the Hutchinson City Commission and served two terms as mayor, was a member and past president of the Kansas Association of Independent Insurance Agents, was a member and former Kansas State National Director of the Independent Insurance Association of America, was a member and past president of the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Rotary International, was a past president of the Hutchinson Rotary Club, past governor of Rotary District No. 5690 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve, with 40 years of service. He served on the USS Albany from 1954 to 1956 and was the former commanding officer of the Hutchinson Naval Reserve Center. He married Martha Jo Johnson on Dec. 20, 1954, at Topeka. She survives. Survivors also include four sons and daughters-in-law, Jim Jr. and Christine, Overland Park, Allen and Kriss, Bob and Annie and Dan and Kim, all of Hutchinson; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Phillip Shaw, Overland Park; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Bonnie Fee, Hutchinson; and 18 grandchildren, Steven, Jeffrey, Jay, Jordan, Tyler, Melissa, Colton, Robby, Kathleen, Madelyn, Emily, Ashton, Jack, Caroline and Claire Fee and Allyson, Amanda and Katie Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Anne Fee. Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at First Congregational Church, Hutchinson. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Community Foundation James W. Fee Memorial Fund, 1 North Main, Hutchinson, Kan., 67501.
