Nick Dawson

Lyndon Nick Dawson, 77, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. Nick was born on January 23, 1935 in Hays, the son of Harold and Margaret Marxen Dawson. Nick grew up in Russell and had lived in Lyndon since 1963. He began his coaching career in Denison in 1959. Moving to Lyndon in 1963, Coach Dawson also taught P.E. and Driver s Ed for 35 years. After retirement, he worked at the Feltner Funeral Home from 1998 to 2012. He was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church and the Lyndon Endowment Association. In 2002 he was inducted into the KSHSAA Hall of Fame and in 2003 was inducted into the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Nick was married to Audrey Gray from 1955 to 1974. Nick married Mary Ann Stout on August 2, 1979 in Lyndon. Nick was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Curt Dawson. Nick is survived by his wife Mary Ann of the home; his son, Randy Dawson (Monique) of San Antonio, TX.; his three daughters, Debbie Gee of Columbia, S.C., Robin Wade (Jeff) of Lenexa and Jennie Evans (Mark) of Richland, PA.; his step daughter, Ann Harty (Dan) of Wichita; his two brothers, Gene Dawson and Brad Dawson, both of Hays; fourteen grandchildren. Funeral services for Nick will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 7 at the Nick Dawson Gymnasium at the Lyndon High School. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday at the Feltner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
