Renita Rothe

Renita passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2012 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL after a 16 month battle with breast cancer. She was born on Feb. 18, 1954 to Alberta & Donald Horton in Council Grove, KS. Renita graduated from Seaman High School, Topeka, KS in 1972. She loved her job as a waitress and manager at House of Ma in Emporia, KS for 18 years, and went on to work as a flight attendant for United Express, ATA, and American Airlines in Chicago while living in Plainfield. Renita enjoyed working. She was a people person and she loved making her customers smile. Her favorite flights were the ones where she brought military personnel home from the Middle East. She was selected to work some very special flights, including a trip with Hillary Clinton during her campaign, & the Make-A-Wish Foundation when they flew sick children to the North Pole for Christmas. Renita is survived by her sons Shawn (Heather) Hickey & Christian Rothe'. She is also survived by her mother Alberta Horton, sisters Cheryl Connell and Roxanne Wooden, brother Brad Horton, and friend Frank Oliver. She was predeceased by her former husband and Shawn's father, Steven Hickey, and her father Donald Horton. A memorial service will be held Nov. 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church located at 400 W. Main St. Council Grove KS. Viewing will begin at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Renita Rothe' Memorial Fund, in care of Penwell Gabel PO Box 273 Council Grove, KS 66846 to be dedicated at a later date.
