Willie Collins

Willie James Collins, 68, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 17, 1944 in Yazoo County, Mississippi, the son of Lonnie and Mary Scott Collins. He was the youngest of 11 children; he was preceded in death by both parents and five siblings. Willie dedicated his life to Christ at an early age at White Star Missionary Baptist Church in Belzoni, Mississippi in Topeka he was a member of St. John AME Church. Willie graduated from McNair High School in Belzoni, Mississippi and joined the Air Force in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1965. Willie attended Washburn University and was an avid bowler and bowled in many leagues in Topeka. He was a director in the Topeka Bowling Association and treasured his many rings from the USBC and TNBA. Willie worked part-time as a weekend disc-jockey for KTOP during the 1970's. He retired from Goodyear as a value stream manager in 2006 with 36 1/2 years of service but returned to Goodyear in 2008 until 2011 when he had to retire due to his health. Willie leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Suzanne, one daughter, Kelly Collins (Darrell) Tetterton, Greenville, NC, two sons, Patrick and Ian Collins of Topeka, Kansas., three grandsons, Tre Collins, Torey Collins, and Hezekiah Tetterton. He also leaves behind one brother, Johnny B. Collins (Eloistean) of Isola, MS and four sisters, Lucille Newkirk, Belzoni, MS., Dorothy Weatherspoon (Morrie) of Buffalo, NY and Yvonne Harris (Melvin) of Amherst, NY., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be Monday, January 28-11:00 a.m. at St John AME Church. Visitation will be Sunday, January 27 at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel 4-8 p.m. and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m. Willie James Collins
