Galen Bernard Wilhelm

HORTON- Galen Bernard Wilhelm, 70, of rural Horton, KS, passed away on February 6, 2009 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born on September 10, 1938 in Oneida, KS the son of Cyril & Isabel Heinen Wilhelm. Galen was a farmer, stock man and worked for Gaskell Bolt Company before going to work for the Golden Eagle Casino. He is a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, and served with the U.S. National Guard Battery B in Horton. On January 12, 1963 he married Willa R. Rethman at St. Benedict, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Denise Wilson and Stacy Wilhelm both of Topeka; three sons, Kevin Wilhelm of Holton, KS, Brian Wilhelm of Everest, KS and Daryl Wilhelm of Horton, and eight grandchildren. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton. A prayer service will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Monday evening at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, where the family will greet friends following the service until 8:30 P.M. Burial will be at the St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Galen Wilhelm memorial fund in care of the mortuary.
