Dr. Alva Earl Bowers Dr. Alva Earl Bowers, 85, Overbrook, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at an Overbrook nursing home. He was born February 6, 1928 at Taft, Texas, the son of Alva Claude and Mary Adams Bowers. He graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and later went on to receive his Doctorate. Earl was a Pastor for 62 years. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, tennis, and had a great love of people. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Edna M. Ellison, and a son, Michael D. Hetzler. Earl married Betty L. Pierce and they were united in marriage for 43 years. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Jimmy Bowers, Mark Bowers, five daughters, Cathy Crawley, Nancy Booten, Lisa Crook, Laurie Kotuby, Tammy Akovenko, 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Grace Community Church in Overbrook, KS. Burial will be in Overbrook Cemetery. A family visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Community Church Renovation Fund and sent in care of Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.
