Benjamin Allen Sperry, 67, Olathe, Kansas, passed away December 26, 2012 with his wife Dianne by his side. Ben was born May 19, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri. Ben was raised in Topeka, Kansas. He graduated from Hayden High School and Washburn University. Ben taught High School English in Topeka, Wichita and Andover, Kansas. He encouraged the love of learning in all children and adults. Ben inspired many of his students to become teachers themselves. He was a kind, gentle, unassuming, and loving man whose sense of humor brought out the best in all who knew him. Ben was preceded in death by his parents David Allen and Dorothy (Straus) Sperry Meadows. He is survived by his wife, Dianne, children Aaron Weinberg, Uri and Kelli (Garner) Weinberg, Scott and Elana (Weinberg) Poulter, his grandchildren Jacob Weinberg, Ethan Weinberg, Liam Weinberg, Neala Weinberg, Addison Poulter, and Isaac Poulter. Private family services are being held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to ALS Association - Keith Worthington Chapter, 6950 Squibb Rd, Mission, KS 66202 or the KU Endowment - Department of Neurology and Center for Advanced Heart Care, 3901 Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, KS 66160.
