Betty Fallin Obituary

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. Betty Marie Fallin died September 23, 2010 at the age of 94 in Oklahoma City after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her son Dr. Joseph Price Fallin, Jr., her two grandchildren, Christina Marie Fallin and Joseph Price Fallin III, her sister, Julia Christenson, and her niece, Ann Carruth. She was born on August 27, 1916 in Topeka, Kansas and was the first of four children of Orange Bain and Agnes Eidson. Betty Fallin attended Topeka High School and then later the University of Kansas, where she was selected as homecoming queen. Betty Fallin met her husband of 39 years Joseph Price Fallin, Sr., while taking flying lessons from him in Topeka, Kansas. Her sister, Judy, recalls the many prayers she had on the ground while taking her first solo flight. Betty and Joseph moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they had their only child, Joseph Price Fallin, Jr. After a short time, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where Betty wrote for the society section of the Wichita Beacon Newspaper. The family then moved to Oklahoma City, where Betty took a job writing for the society section of the Oklahoman. Betty Fallin was most proud of being a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She served as editor for the Theta magazine and worked numerous years with the Theta Flaming Festival Committee. Betty was also a member of Junior League of Oklahoma City, the Republican Women's Club, and helped with many charities. She donated hundreds of Washburn College Bibles and raised thousands of dollars for the Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts and was honored by Dr. Terry Johnson, President of OCU. Betty Fallin was very active in her Bible study groups at the First Presbyterian Church and All Souls Episcopal Church. Betty was also passionate about traveling and once took her son, Joe and daughter in law, Congresswoman Mary Fallin, and their two children, Christina, and Price at age 1, to Italy and France loaded with two bags of formula and diapers. The Fallin family was very grateful for the loving care she received from Sherri Judd, Congresswoman Mary Fallin and the excellent medical care of Dr. Louis (Rusty) Cox, Dr. Elwood Williams, doctors, nurses and staff at the Critical Care Unit of Deaconess Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Price Fallin, Sr. She is survived by her son Joseph Price Fallin, Jr, her granddaughter Christina Marie Fallin, her grandson Joseph "Price" Fallin III, her sisters Julia Christenson and Sally Walton, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel at 3:00pm on Thursday, September 30, 2010 with a reception to follow. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com. Betty M. Fallin

Dearest Betty,

It was a pleasure to have known such a determined, spirited and genuine woman and an honor to help watch over your two wonderful grandchildren Christina and Price. You were one-of-a-kind and will be missed greatly.

My best to your family.

Betty was a beautiful lady inside and out. She was my neighbor and we bonded immediately when we first moved in. She also had a special place in her heart for my husband. We were girlfriends, despite our age difference. She is now a Butterfly, meaning A New Life, of which she taught me. She will never leave my soul. Knowing her and our many talks, she is truly where she wants to be.
Here's to you Betty! Love you,

I first met Betty when she came to visit her mother, Mrs. Edison. Betty was a very spirited and outgoing person. I used to work for her mother when I was in high school. In addition, I baby sat the children of Sally and Bill Walton. Betty knew the love of family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

I first met Betty when she came to Topeka to visit her mother Mrs. Edison who I worked for and baby sat Sally Walton's oldest child Becky and eventually the other two children of Sally and Bill Walton. Betty was a very spirited and outgoing lady. May she rest in peace from a life well spent in Christ.

I have many memories of all the times that Aunt Betty and Uncle Joe would come to our house in Topeka, for various holiday gatherings, and how much fun all of the cousins would have playing football in the front yard. I am the youngust of 3 daughters of Sally Walton who is the youngest sister of Aunt Betty. I will miss her greatly but, know now that she is in a much better place with Jesus.
