Wow, I just heard about Carl's passing 10 minutes ago via Facebook. Carl was my baseball coach when I was in high school and I played with his sons Greg and Steve.

I also used to talk with him at Sacred Heart football games when I was freelancing for the Salina Journal. I always enjoyed catching up with him.

I'm sure he'll be missed by many.

Ruthie, please accept my condolences for your loss. Pete and I grew up playing and arguing when he lived on 10th St. and me on 10th and Lincoln. He was a good athlete and fun person. We know he is in heaven. Our prayers are with you. I can't be there for you because of time and distance. Pat Unrein Humble, Texas

Carl Strecker was a great athlete for Hayden in the 1950s - He was injured when Hayden played in the 1954 State tourney. He said that he loved Sacred Heart but it used to be difficult for him to look at that 1954 1st place award in Sacred Heart's trophy case. I guess he got used to it OK. R.I.P. - Pat Macfee. Topeka
