PhotoHUTCHINSON- Franklin Buzz Crews, 71, of Hutchinson passed away March 11, 2009 at ST. Marys Health Center, St. Louis, MO. He was born on December 4, 1937 in Topeka, KS, the son of Franklin K. and Dorothy Gillum Crews. He was a graduate of Topeka High School, Washburn University and Washburn University School of Law. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, was a Capt. in the Army National Guard and was a Judge Advocate General. Franklin was a Trust Officer with the First National Bank of Topeka, then Chief Investment Officer with Beech Aircraft, and currently worked as the Principal Partner of MRM Asset Allocation Group. Franklin was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder. While at Washburn, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Prairie Dunes Country Club, former member of the Hutchinson Community Foundation Investment Committee, and a former member of the Hutchinson Town Club Board. On October 5, 1972, he married Patty Gilliland in Topeka, KS. She survives. Other survivors include: a son, Adam Crews and his wife Angela of Overland Park, KS; daughters Heather Valerius and husband Troy of Shawnee, KS and Jennifer Crews of Mission, KS; sisters, Jan Stratton and husband Wayne of Topeka, KS; half-sister Betty Wilson of Paxico, KS; 4 grandchildren, Parker, Spencer, Cooper and Tanner Valerius; and his mother-in-law Ruth Gilliland of Hutchinson. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bob Gilliland. Memorial services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson with Rev. Tim Soule and Amy Dame officiating.. Private family inurnment will be held at the Church Columbarium. Family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church parlor. Friends may sign the book Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. In care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501, memorials may be sent in lieu of flowers to the church or the Hutchinson Community Foundation.
