Gary Lloyd Hemmingway, 73, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born October 27, 1938, in Fort Scott, KS, the son of William & Doris (Blythe) Hemmingway. In 1961, he graduated from Emporia State Teachers College and married Glory Kay Bodge. His career included teaching, ministry, US Army, insurance sales, and computer programming. In 2001, he returned to teaching, substituting for five local school districts. He retired from New Directions Learning Academy, Topeka, in 2011. Community activities included model railroading (NMRA), sponsoring exchange students, and Kansas Authors Club. He was predeceased by brother, Charles, and parents, William and Doris. He is survived by wife, Glory; son, Douglas; daughters, Reaona & Kathleen (Shane); five grandchildren; & three great-grandchildren. Services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 1:00 pm at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Ave, Topeka. Memorial gifts may be sent to or Leukemia Research Foundation. Gary Lloyd Hemmingway
