John Francis "Jack" Kilmartin

John Kilmartin Obituary

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - John “Jack” Francis Kilmartin, 82, Pacific Grove, died Friday, July 30, 2004. Jack was born in Albany, N.Y., and grew up in Topeka. He graduated from Washburn University before serving his country in the Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. Following his service he spent his 40-year career in the retail industry, retiring in 1986 as the CEO of Mervyn's Department Stores. He also served on the boards for several retail companies. He and his wife, Patti, have lived in Pebble Beach, Calif., for the past 12 years. Jack was a member of the Order of Malta. He was active in Catholic Charities and other charitable organizations. Jack also served on the Board of Trustees at Santa Clara University and was an active member of the Capitol Club and Monterey Peninsula Country Club. His first wife, Irma Lee Kilmartin, preceded Jack in death. Jack is survived by his wife, Patti; his sons, Bob Kilmartin, Greg Parker, Kel ly Parker and John Kilmartin; his daughters, Shannon Kuder, Debbie Pisciotta, Kathleen Schultz, Tracy Sardelli and Katherine Glaessner; his 17 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and his brother, Ron Kilmartin. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Angela's Catholic Church in Pacific Grove, Calif., corner of Lighthouse and Eighth, under the direction of The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's name may be sent to the Catholic Charities of Monterey, 922 Hilby Ave., Suite C, Seaside, Calif., 93955.
