Ronald Price Cowan, Jr. (75) passed away peacefully with his children at his bedside on November 10, 2013 in Sun City, AZ. He was born to Ronald Price Cowan, Sr. and Esther Elizabeth Johnson Cowan on June 21, 1938 in Emporia, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Wildonna Cowan. He is survived by his sister, Lorna Stormont (Dave) of Emporia; a son, Jeffery Cowan (Cassie) of Topeka; two daughters, Jacquelyn Booth (Bobby) of Oklahoma City, and Jennifer Chase (David) of Apalachin, NY; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Ron grew up in Reading, KS. He attended a one-room school house until 4th grade and graduated from Reading High School in 1956. He married Mary Lou Jones in 1959 and was later divorced. He attended Emporia State University and was an active member and alumnus of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. Ron was a switchman for the Rock Island Railroad in Topeka. He graduated from Washburn University and was self-employed as a Certified Financial Planner with Ron Cowan Agency, Inc. in Topeka, KS. He served with the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was a member of the Arab Shriners in Topeka. Ron was a past member of Reading United Methodist Church and Countryside United Methodist Church. He traveled the world and loved golfing. Many a room was filled with laughter when Ron entered and nobody ever forgot meeting him because of his practical jokes. Ron left his imprint on this earth that will last in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 30, 2013 at 1:30pm at Countryside United Methodist Church in Topeka, KS, with Rev. Joan Porter officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:30pm.
