Tommye R. Kelly Tommye R. Kelly, aged 82, daughter of Kathleen and Colonel Thomas Walter Roane of Marion, VA died peacefully in her family cabin at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA, June 9, 2013. Tommye was a retired music teacher. She received her BA in Music Education from Winthrop University and her MFA from the University of Florida. Music and singing animated Tommye s life. Early in her career she taught music in various locations, finally settling down in Nortonville, KS where she taught in the Jefferson County North (JCN) School System for 17 years. In Topeka, KS she was a proud member of the Grace Episcopal Cathedral choir. Teaching and being a member of that choir made those some of the most cherished years of her life. She retired in Marion in 1996 where she sang with her beloved Christ Episcopal Church choir. She also sang with the Voices of the Mountains. Tommye loved to spend time with her family and treasured bridge and book club members. She was a fearless world traveler and an avid gardener. She will be remembered for her curious mind, adventurous spirit and varied interests. One of her greatest joys was to return to Marion and live in the cabin her parents built in the 1940s. Growing up in the Army it was the only permanent home she ever knew. Tommye married Dr. Sidney Kelly and is survived by their daughter Cary Kelly and two grandchildren, Clea and Christian of Atlanta, GA, and their daughter, Joanna Kelly, of Washington, DC. Tommye leaves behind many dear friends in Marion and Kansas. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 17 at Christ Episcopal Church, 401 West Main Street, Marion, 24354. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church. Tommye R. Kelly
