Loretta graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1947, a proud accomplishment. On October 22, 1947, she married Donald Calander in Emporia KS. Loretta had the most important job of all being a stay at home mom. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for her daughters and a church sacristan at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church for many years. Loretta's greatest gift to her children was caring for her grandchildren while they worked. She was a charter member of Christ the King Church. Loretta is survived by her four children, Rhonda Calander, Regina Gabrielson, Rose Mary (Alan) Whitford and John (Susan) Calander, all of Topeka; six grandchildren, Eric (Theresa ) and Leif (Amy) Gabrielson, Lawrence David Whitford, Phoenix AZ, Laura (Jeff) King, Jacob and Elizabeth Calander, Topeka ; six great-grandchildren, Connor, Evan, Max and Maggie Gabrielson, Lawrence KS, Adelaide King, Topeka and Annabel Whitford, Klamath Falls OR; as well as five surviving brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Loretta was preceded in death by Donald, November 16, 2013, her parents, four brothers, three grandchildren and one son-in-law. Loretta's greatest joy was her family. She loved to read, sew, and take rides on the carousel at the park and flowers. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS, 66614, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church with burial following at Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family thanks the wonderful caring people at Mission Township Fire Department, Dr. George Wright, St. Francis Hospital and Midland Care Hospice; especially Dr. Greg Nelson, Dorothy Kurtz and Jessi Renner; plus Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, who cared for Loretta.
