Orvin Dean Schwant Orvin Dean Schwant, 75, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at home in his Savior's arms on February 28, 2014. Orvin was born the son of Arnold and Lydia (Abitz) Schwant on February 21, 1939, in Wamego KS. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wheaton KS. Orvin attended and graduated from Wheaton High School. He married Maureen Matzke on June 11, 1961, in Wheaton KS. Together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. He served six years in the National Guard and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 40 years of service. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and was also an avid hunter and fisherman; loved playing cards with friends, especially the Monday poker buddies and the Wheeler Dealer Pitch Club. He also enjoyed traveling with Maureen and friends, gardening, and always had time for a good story. Survivors include his wife, Maureen, of their home; son, Darin (Betty) Schwant, Dover KS; daughter, Darla (Brad) Baker, St. Louis MO; grandchildren, Erin and Emily Schwant, Kennedy and Chase Baker. Other survivors include two brothers, Dennis (Ireta) Schwant, Blaine KS, and Wilbur (Roddy) Schwant, Topeka; sister, Lorraine (Gordon) Kolterman, Buckeye IA; along with a host of dearly loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lydia Schwant. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road in Topeka. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Boulevard. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
