Darlene M. Lumpe, 81, of Topeka, Kansas passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014, at the House at Midland Care with her family at her side. Darlene was born January 18, 1933, to Frederick and Eleanora (Senne) Herren in Alma KS. She attended grade school in Alma and graduated from Alma High School. She married Guy Orton on October 28, 1950, and together they had four sons. They later divorced. She married Don Lumpe on June 17, 1972, and they spent 41 wonderful years together. She lived a life of dedication and service to family, work, church, and community. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and quilting for her family. She worked for 25 years as the office manager at her husband s accounting business, Don Lumpe & Company. At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church she served as board chair, as a Stephen minister, as a choir member, and as the chair or a member of many committees. She volunteered at Topeka Literacy Council, Stormont -Vail Hospice, Topeka Rescue Mission, and at a reading program for grade school children. She is survived by her husband, Don, of the home; sons, Richard Orton (Linda) of Salina, Joel Orton (Claudia) of Clinton NJ, Kevin Orton (Kathy) of Dallas OR, and Rex Orton (Robin) of Tecumseh; step-sons, Mark Lumpe (Julie) of Lawrence and Andrew Lumpe (Torrey) of Sammamish WA; sister, Myrna McClure of Topeka; brother Earl Herren of Wichita; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding Darlene in death are her parents and her brother Melvin Buster Palenske. A visitation for Darlene will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Sunday, April 6th from 5:00 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
