Norman Johnson Norman Edsel Johnson, 88, of Topeka, passed away April 10, 2014. He was born on November 18, 1925, in Scandia KS to Henry and Esther Johnson. He attended Kackly Grade School and graduated from Manhattan High School and Kansas State University where he received a BS degree and a Masters degree. Norm was a member of the Greatest Generation. He served in the US Army in the Philippine Islands during the retaking of that area. Norm was an educator, teaching high school in Barnard, Stockton, Jamestown, and Topeka. In Topeka he taught at Boswell Junior High and Topeka High School. At Topeka High School he was also a counselor and assistant principal. He ended his career at Kaw Area Technical School. After retirement Norm served on the Sergeant of Arms staff in the Kansas Senate, and he was a driver for the blind. Norm was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and was a Stephen Minister. He is survived by his wife, Jan Johnson; daughter, Nancy (Mark) Reedy; son, Steve Johnson; two grandsons that he was especially proud of: Colin Reedy and Daniel Reedy; brother, Donald (Aileen) Johnson of Burlington WA. Norm loved people and could talk to anyone anywhere. He will live on in the memories of his loved ones and the stories that they will share. Honoring Norm's request, he will be cremated and a private graveside will be held at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
