Helen Maxine Burke Porter Jackson Helen Maxine Burke Porter Jackson, 89, of Topeka, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014. She was born September 24, 1924 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of John Henry and Hortense Boling Burke. She has resided in Topeka since 1946. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1942 and received a BS in Education from Emporia State University in 1946 and a Masters in education from the University of Kansas. She was employed by U.S.D. 501 as an educator for 35 years prior to retiring. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O., WWA at Washburn University, served on the Washburn Board of Regents, the Kansas State Board of Regents, a member of the Tri Sigma Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Western Sorosis. Helen married Walter H. Porter on January 30, 1982 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2004. She later married Dr. Donald Jackson, M.D. on July 15, 2010 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include her cousin, Paul Hoh of Texas. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison St., Topeka, KS 66612.
