HOYT Allen Kent Smith, 70, of Hoyt, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born April 25, 1937 at Vermillion, Ohio the son of Marcus R. and Blanche Allen Smith. He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1953. Allen was a U.S. Air Force veteran from 1953 to 1958, having served in Thailand. He was a member of the Air Force MARS, American Legion Post No. 225 at Ozawkie, and Rubber Workers Local No. 307, where he served as vice president and was an arbitrator. He worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka, and retired after thirty- two years. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Allen Smith, who died in infancy in 1956, and a sister, Carole Miller. Allen married Linda K. Graham July 19, 2002 in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four sons, Jeffrey Smith and wife Denise, Valley Falls, Daniel Smith and wife Dee, Circleville, Bradley Smith and wife Hope, Lindsborg, and Gunnar Smith, Overland Park; three daughters, Karen Rickel and husband Eric, Vassar, Marla Brandon, Mayetta, and Julie Steuber and husband Darren, Hoyt; one sister, Genevive Clark and husband Hank, Vermillion, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 16th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial will follow in the Muddy Creek Cemetery. Allen will lie in state until service time at the funeral home where family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
