ST. MARYS- Marvin C. Muckenthaler, age 77, of St. Marys, died December 31, 2008, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Marvin was born January 31, 1931 at McFarland, the son of Louis and Clara Stork Muckenthaler. He grew up in the Paxico community and moved to St. Marys in 1948. He had worked for the City of St. Marys in the Electric and Water Department for 28 years. He had served on the St. Marys Township Board for 34 years. Marvin had been doing volunteer work at Immaculate Conception Church where he was a member. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Marvin was a graduate of Kansas State University. He married Rita Simecka on November 25, 1977. Survivors are his wife Rita of the home, three stepchildren, Charles (Debbie) Simecka, Topeka, Alan (Donna) Simecka, Edgerton and Lori (Steve) Martini, Manhattan; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Shawn) Beach, Leawood, Michelle (Mark) Bettis, Lawrence, Travis Simecka, Topeka, KSU Student, Jessica Simecka, Lenexa, Jordan and Cole Simecka, Edgerton, Megan Martini, KSU Student, and Lyndsey of Manhattan; three great-grandsons, twins, Sam and Max Bettis, Lawrence and Bryce Simecka, Lenexa; brothers, Florian (Betty) Muckenthaler, West Bridgewater, Mass, George (Cel) Muckenthaler, Kettering, OH; sisters, Leona (Jim) Dickenson, Newark, OH. and Ann (Mike) Quaney, Wichita; deceased brothers, Earl Muckenthaler, Topeka, and Steve Muckenthaler, Bakersfield, CA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. Mr. Muckenthaler will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where there will be a Prayer Vigil followed by a Rosary at 8:00 P.M.
