Marvin Marv L. Parnell, age 80, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born May 17, 1928 in Williamstown, KS the son of Leo F. Parnell and Catherine May Abel Parnell. Marvin grew up and attended school at Perry, Kansas. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1946. Mr. Parnell served in the United States Navy. He attended Kansas University and Rockhurst University. Marv lived for many years at Mt. Vernon, Iowa where he served as Bishop at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. He was a major contracts manager for Rockwell International at Cedar Rapids, Iowa for many years before retiring in 1991. After retiring, he lived at Osage Beach, Missouri. Marvin married Elsie Smith in 1951, they had four children. They later divorced. He married Betty Kane in 1986, they later divorced. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donald, one sister Mona Fanning and daughter Linda Taylor in 2006. Survivors include his children, Lisa R. Vandertoolen of Taylorsville, Utah, Michael Parnell in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mark Parnell of Saluda, North Carolina; sister, Mary Hinchsliff of Topeka; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services and interment will be held at Buster Cemetery in Jefferson County at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2009. Memorial contributions may be made to the
