Vernon Lee Bailey, Sr., 70, passed away on January 11, 2010 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born on June 12, 1939 in Topeka, the son of Curtis and Esther Brown Bailey. Vernon had lived in Topeka until moving to Lyndon in 1975 where he has lived since. He was a Journeyman Sheetmetal Worker for many years and owned and operated Bailey Heating & Air in Lyndon for several years. He was a member of the Sheetmetal Workers Union #77. On August 4, 1962 Vernon was married to Daphne Potter Hayes in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Curtis and Frank, two sisters, Midge and Sarah, three grandchildren, Erica Lynn Hufford, Ethan Potter Bailey and Baby Boy Hufford, and his son-in-law, Thomas Cowser. Vernon is survived by his wife Daphne of the home, four sons, Donald Hayes (Sara) of Kingsville, MO., Steven Hayes (Janet) of Perry, Vernon "Jay" Bailey (Nicole) of Osage City and David Bailey (Patti) of Lyndon, two daughters, Rebecca Cowser of Lawrence and Peggy Wischropp (Kevin) of Lyndon, his two brothers, Edward Bailey of Independence, MO. and Donald Bailey of Topeka, his sister, Dorothy Rigsby of Topeka, 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Vernon will be at 11:00am on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.
