OSAGE CITYBetty Louise Howey Helms, 80, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Peterson Nursing Home in Osage City. She was born December 13, 1929, in Redfield, South Dakota, the daughter of William C. and Louise Carlson Blaedorn. She moved from South Dakota to Colorado Springs in 1950. She moved to Topeka in 1955 and to Garnett in 1995. She had lived in Osage City since September, 2009. Betty had worked as a phone operator in Dover for several years and helped her husband Albert run their saw mill in Dover. She had previously been a member of the Dover Federated Church and later the Shawnee Heights Baptist Church. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and had volunteered at the VA Hospital in Topeka. She married Lloyd Davis on April 14, 1948. They were divorced. She married Albert Howey on May 1, 1954. He died March 4, 1985. She married George Helms November 19, 1997. Survivors include her husband, George Helms, Osage City; three daughters, Linda Lee Petterson, Maricopa, AZ, Deborah Kay Jackson, Osage City and Cynthia Dawn Raines, Topeka; two sons, William A. Howey, Topeka and Michael C. Howey, Riverton, WY; four sisters, Bonnie Harris, and Virginia Marlow, both of Redfield, SD, Pat Aldridge, Flagstaff, AZ and Markie Carlson, Wheaton, MN; five brothers, Bill Blaedorn, Tempe, AZ, Jim Blaedorn, David Blaedorn and Robert Blaedorn, all of Redfield, SD, Richard Blaedorn, Aberdeen, SD; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Blaedorn and a grandson, Johnny L. Howey. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 26, at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City. Private inurnment will be at Dover Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Betty Helms Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date and sent in care of the funeral chapel at 107 N 6, Osage City, KS 66523.
