Fred Woltkamp passed away May 30, 2010 in Topeka, Kansas after a courageous battle with cancer and COPD. He was a kind and humble man who will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. His sense of humor, culinary skills and engaging smile won over many people and made him many friends throughout his lifetime. Fred was born March 16, 1925 in Seneca, Kansas to Alfred P. Woltkamp and Bertha Fienhage Woltkamp. He attended elementary and high school at St. Peter and Pauls Catholic Church in Seneca, Kansas. He had been a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka since 1959. Fred proudly served his country during World War II as a tail gunner on a B-25. He flew bombing missions over Italy and Germany with the 486th Bomb Squadron of the 340th Bomb Group in the 12th Air Force. After the war, Fred joined the local Typograpical Union in Topeka. He spent his entire career as a linotype operator working for Capper Publications, Standard Printing and the State of Kansas Printing Plant. On September 15, 1947 he married Mary Doris Rooney. They had two children, Linda R. Woltkamp (Aurora, Co.) and Thomas L. Woltkamp (Topeka). He and Mary Doris were married for twenty-seven years. She resides in Lake Havasu, AZ. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Frosty, two infant brothers Clinton Patrick and Loren Allen, a sister Erma Tays and her husband Leroy, a brother Gerald Woltkamp and his wife Geraldine, a brother Emmett Woltkamp, along with two brothers-in-law Kenny Conley and Vince Rottinghaus. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, best buddy and fellow sports fanatic, Anthony M. (Tony) Woltkamp. Fred is survived by his children, Linda and Tom, a daughter-in-law Darchelle A. Woltkamp, his granddaughters Amanda M. Woltkamp (Colorado Springs, Co.) and Melissa A. Woltkamp (Centennial, Co.) He is also survived by five sisters: Reva Rottinghaus, Shawnee, KS, Cleta (Larry) Riley, Olathe, KS, Lola (Al) Boeding, Gladstone, MO, Jane (Art) Tangeman, Seneca, KS and Marilyn (Bob) Brinker, Seneca, KS. He also leaves behind, numerous nieces and nephews and his friends and his close extended family of Stacey Sheon, Bob, Geri and Craig Shockley. Visitation will be today at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 3601 SW 17th from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Wednesday June 2nd. Mass of Christian Burial will be a 3:00 PM today, followed by burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Clinic in Topeka.
