Dorothy L. Bennett HOLTON- Dorothy L. Bennett, 95, of Holton, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Holton Hospital. She was born February 5, 1916, in Holton, the daughter of Knox Steele and Clara J. Riederer Shaw. She spent her early life north of Denison and attended Brightside Rural Grade School and graduated from Denison High School in 1934. Mrs. Bennett and her husband owned and operated Bennett Heating and Plumbing in Holton for 49 years. During part of her business years in the 1950's, it was moved to Sabetha then later back to Holton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton, where she was a long time member of the Alpha Circle. She was also a member of Stitch & Chatter Sewing Club, Holton Business Women and Bridge Club. She enjoyed working in the Republican Party and attended the National Republican Convention in Kansas City. She married Marion L. Bennett on December 9, 1939 in Bethel, KS. He died November 21, 1993. She also was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Jay Bennett in 2002, her parents; three brothers, Marvin Shaw, Howard Shaw and Ralph Shaw and a sister, Winifred Smith. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Jane Bennett, Leawood, KS; two granddaughters, Katie Bennett, Kansas City and Elizabeth Tridle and husband Chris, Leawood, KS; one great-grandson, Bennett and a great granddaughter, Charlotte. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Interment will be in the Holton Cemetery.
