MCPHERSON-Virginia C. Hawkinson, 89, of McPherson, passed away at 10:45 p.m., Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 peacefully at Loving Care of McPherson. Virginia was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 13, 1922, the daughter of Russell S. and Dana May (Wise) Griffee. Virginia attended the Central Park Grade School, the Boswell Junior High School, and graduated from the Topeka High School, Topeka, Kansas in 1940. She attended Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas for 2 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church McPherson, Kansas. After college, Virginia worked for the Santa Fe Railroad Offices in Topeka as a Clerk; worked for Stone-McClure-Webb-Johnson- and Omand Law Firm of Topeka as a receptionist; was a Homemaker; worked for her husband Al as a bookkeeper at the McPherson County Abstract Company, of McPherson and worked for her sister at the Craft Seller of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Virginia was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta of Washburn University; former member of Chapter AY of P.E.O., McPherson, volunteered at the McPherson County Food Bank, McPherson, Kansas for many years and was very proud of her service on the U.S.D 418 McPherson School Board having served two terms. Virginia C. Griffee was united in marriage to Alfred Simpson Hawkinson on December 30, 1946 at Topeka, Kansas. Virginia was united in marriage to Loehr M. Rigby on January 1, 1982 at Topeka, Kansas. Surviving family members include her children, Paul Griff Griffee Hawkinson and his wife Kathryn of McPherson, Kansas and Ann Gabrick and her husband Lucian Gabe of Olathe, Kansas; 2 Grandchildren Tucker Hawkinson and Tanner Hawkinson 2 Step-Grandchildren - Ingrid Marcellino-Ousdahl and her husband Bryan and Dr. Thomas Marcellino and his wife Whitney 3 Step-Great-Grandchildren, Thomas Marcellino, Larson Marcellino, and Colton Ousdahl; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her brother Albert Griffee and sister, Helen Gordon. Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17th, with Reverend H. Dick Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Inurnment of cremated remains will take place at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas Family request donations to First Presbyterian Church, McPherson, Kansas; or the McPherson County Food Bank and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
