Jene Kathryne Hillyer Angel passed beyond the veil Nov. 10, 2012 after a 1-year battle with cancer. Daughter of Kenneth N. Hillyer and Carole Ferguson Hillyer, she was born in Warren, Ohio, Sept. 27, 1952. She is survived by her mother, sister, Holly Grayling, and brother, David Hillyer. Jene leaves her husband, Stephen Angel; children, Troy, R. Pattrik, Ashlei, Arislyn, Anna, Aubrie; and 16 grandchildren. Jene was gregarious, outgoing, and known for her acerbic wit, organization, and love of crowds. She loved animals and traveling, and enjoyed bass fishing, NASCAR, water skiing, singing, and sewing. She met her introverted, quiet, husband in college. A graduate of Warren Western Reserve H.S., Jene went on to earn her B.A at California U., and her Masters at U. of Colorado. She taught Special Education for 20 years and Teacher Education at Washburn University. She served as the first Director of Kansas Families for KIDS, and the Executive Director of Kansas Adoptive and Foster Families, and was the Safety Manager at Goodyear and Amazon. Ultimately, Jene was devoted to family, friends, and her faith.
