Denis Eugene Spare, age 54, of Westminster, Maryland died on Saturday November 10, 2012 of heart failure. He was born on September 21, 1958 in Hiawatha, Kansas to Robert W., and Ethel R. Spare. He was the youngest son in a family of seven children, including three older brothers, two older sisters and one younger sister. His first 18 Huck Finn years were spent roaming the hills and valleys of rural northeast Kansas farms near a small close knit community of Padonia. Fishing, hunting and telling of tales were his life long passions, second only to his love for Blues music. His compassion, empathy and wit were shared with many, many friends. Denis never married and fathered no children, but he shared dwellings with friends and was kind and gentle with every child. He graduated from Hiawatha High School and studied computer science at Washburn University in Topeka, KS. He worked in the construction industry for many years and eventually owned his own business, primarily subcontracting jobs in Kansas City, Topeka, and Manhattan KS. Hard times and good times followed Denis most of his life- Life is a roller coaster, he would say And somebody s got to ride it . He moved to the Baltimore, MD. area in1996, where he took on many different jobs. Losing the sight in one eye didn t limit his working skills and abilities for he continued to physically compensate for every thorn thrust in his side. Truly he was a big fish that got away just when he was in sight of the net. We are the ones that were caught, and he is now swimming free. Denis is survived by brother William F. Reeder and his wife Candace of Manassas, Virginia, sister Marybeth Bramlett and her husband Norman, of Grantville KS, brother John A. Spare and wife Sherri of Parsons KS, sister Sara J. Bindrum and husband John of Lincoln NE. and sister Zoe A. Stonebraker and husband Todd of Houston TX. , and Roommate Dena Gomes and Son Troy of Westminster MD. and numerous other relatives and friends. Denis was preceded in death by his Grandparents William & Grace Spare, Rev Clarence and Christie Broadfoot, Parents Robert W., and Ethel Spare, and brother Robert W Spare, Jr. Plans for cremation and internment of Denis s choice have been made and memorial services for friends in the Baltimore area, and Topeka will be held at time to be announced later. A memorial for Denis can be made for an education fund for his young friend Troy. It may be sent to the family in his honor to William Reeder/College of Proforming Arts/ George Mason University/4400 University Dr. MSN 3E6/ Fairfax VA 22030.
